In a surprising twist, flip phones have made a remarkable comeback, reemerging as a sought-after accessory reminiscent of the 2000s. Spearheading this trend is Samsung, who has taken the lead in reviving this nostalgic gadget.

In a bid to celebrate the launch of their two new models, the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5, Samsung enlisted the creative expertise of Iris, a renowned agency. The outcome was nothing short of spectacular – four colossal out-of-home (OOH) billboards that showcased an oversized mobile phone, capturing the attention of passersby.

Annika Bizon, the astute mind behind marketing and omnichannel strategies at Samsung, remarked, “Our latest introduction of the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 signifies the next chapter in our evolution. It’s all about fostering engagement and not merely dictating to consumers what they should anticipate from our latest foldable innovations.”

With this philosophy in mind, the decision to bring this campaign to life in a grand way was evident. The strategy involved erecting three-dimensional billboards at prominent UK locations, featuring none other than the esteemed Samsung ambassadors, Raheem Sterling and Fearne Cotton. These colossal 3D billboards brilliantly capture the essence of the brand’s innovation and exuberance, showcasing the groundbreaking technology Samsung is bringing to the market.

These gigantic billboards are strategically positioned across the UK, gracing two spots in London and making their presence felt in Manchester and Liverpool. The campaign is slated to run until August 10, captivating audiences for an extended period.

Adding his insights to the campaign, Richard Hayter, the accomplished group creative director at Iris, shared, “These new phone models are truly remarkable, but foldable handsets still constitute a small segment of the mobile market. When our clients issued the challenge to ‘go big,’ we embraced it wholeheartedly. Our objective was to showcase the immense potential of foldable devices, on a grand scale.”

Expanding on the functionalities of the devices, Hayter further elaborated, “Unfolding the Galaxy Z Fold5 transforms it into a colossal gaming device. As for the Galaxy Z Flip5, its ability to stand upright on its own is a game-changer, revolutionizing activities like viewing social media content, capturing group selfies, and even engaging in yoga classes, apparently. The involvement of Fearne Cotton and Raheem Sterling was the icing on the cake.”

The execution of media planning and acquisition was skillfully managed by Starcom, while Clear Channel took charge of production, ensuring the flawless realization of this captivating campaign.
