A life-saving heat relief campaign that has reached tens of millions of Maricopa County residents during the critical summer months is returning this month as temperatures heat up.

After two straight years of reduced heat deaths in the Valley, Clear Channel Outdoor (NYSE: CCO) and Maricopa County are proud to announce a third year of partnership on a digital billboard campaign to educate and alert residents and visitors to critical, local heat relief resources, including 200+ heat relief sites.  The campaign, which launched on May 4 and runs through the end of September, is also supported by the Maricopa Association of Governments, 211 Arizona and the City of Phoenix.

“Last summer, Clear Channel provided space with heat relief messaging (at no cost to taxpayers) across the county,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Kate Brophy McGee, District 3. “These messages were seen an estimated 220 million times. We are so grateful for this lifesaving partnership with Clear Channel. We ask all residents to remember if they or their loved ones are in a heat related emergency call 211 and get the help you need.”
Last year, Maricopa County saw its second straight decrease in heat-related deaths, according to data from Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH). Preliminary data shows 430 confirmed heat-related deaths in 2025, down from 608 in 2024, and down from a record-setting 645 deaths in 2023.

“In our third year working in partnership with our fellow community stakeholders, the focus remains on making sure people know where to go before heat becomes an emergency,” said Adriane Youngblood, President, Arizona Division, Clear Channel Outdoor. “We’re proud to continue this partnership to amplify awareness of heat relief resources across the Valley. By using our digital billboard network to deliver timely information at scale, we’re helping residents and visitors quickly find cooling centers and critical support when and where it matters most.”
*
MCDPH is expanding its heat-relief efforts even further this year through contracts with cities and community-based organizations to support expanded hours and access to cooling centers, including overnight sites in Chandler and Phoenix.
*
The digital billboards, donated by Clear Channel Outdoor, will help promote the free, 24-hour 211 information service that can assist people experiencing heat emergencies. 211 Arizona live operators will take calls, in English and Spanish, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily to help residents find nearby cooling centers, transportation help, and much more during the 2026 heat season. When live operators are not available, callers will still be able to connect with resources by selecting from an automated menu.
*
MCDPH will also address the combined risks of extreme heat and substance use by partnering with community-based organizations to help distribute educational materials, naloxone, and electrolytes at heat relief sites.
