A billboard can look great on a computer screen and still miss the mark when it is viewed from a moving vehicle. That idea is at the heart of Drive Your Art®, an interactive software platform created to help advertisers, designers, agencies, and OOH people experience billboard creative from a driver’s perspective.

Drive Your Art was founded by prominent personal injury attorney Rob Levine, known in the legal industry as “The Heavy Hitter®.” Levine operates an extensive marketing program for his law practice, including a significant amount of outdoor advertising.

The idea for Drive Your Art came from a practical problem Levine encountered with traditional billboard design proofs.

A 2D image may look perfect on a computer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the advertisement will work when viewed from a highway at 60 miles per hour. Is the headline large enough? Can the phone number be read? Does the design have enough visual impact?

Drive Your Art was developed to help answer those questions before the creative is printed and installed.

Putting Billboard Creative in the Real World

The software uses augmented and virtual reality technology to digitally place advertising creative into simulated 3D environments. Users can view designs from a simulated driver’s perspective and evaluate elements such as readability, font size, composition, and overall impact.

The platform includes virtual environments featuring highway, rural, and city settings, as well as real-world environments using street-level imagery. Users can simulate approaching a billboard and even create video presentations to share with clients.

The concept isn’t limited to traditional billboards, either. Drive Your Art can be used to visualize advertising on buses, taxis, bus shelters, and other outdoor formats.

Recent updates have expanded the platform’s testing and collaboration capabilities. Users can test artwork under changing light and weather conditions, in addition to speed, to test readability. Quick Starts provide pre-built scenes for faster setup, while A/B testing lets users upload two artwork files and toggle between them on the same placement. Users can also generate secure share links for videos and images, avoiding the need to download and email large files. Team accounts allow multiple people within an organization to work simultaneously, manage membership, and distribute purchased credits.

For billboard companies, the technology could also become a useful sales tool. Instead of showing a prospective advertiser a flat billboard proof, an account executive could demonstrate what that creative actually looks like from the road.

An Opportunity for the Billboard Industry

Perhaps the most interesting part of the Drive Your Art story is that the platform is currently for sale and seeking a buyer.

That could make it an intriguing opportunity for an existing billboard company, OOH software provider, creative agency, or entrepreneur already familiar with the outdoor advertising industry.

An established billboard operator could potentially use the technology internally, incorporate it into its sales process, offer it as a premium creative service, or continue the platform as a standalone software product, selling access to other billboard companies.

Drive Your Art is an example of how a real-world challenge in outdoor advertising can lead to an innovative technology solution. And for someone already in the billboard business, it could represent an opportunity to acquire a unique piece of OOH technology rather than building one from scratch.

Tasty Ad has utilized Drive Your Art for ad mockups and hasn’t seen a tool like this for OOH in their nearly 10 years in business. It’s a great asset for designers and sales reps.
